John Barnes Myofascial Release Technique (aka: MFR)

What is Fascia:
Fascia is a tough connective tissue that supports, protects and envelops all the structures in our bodies; from the bones and muscles, right down to the cellular level. Physical trauma can cause the fascia to tighten down and reorganize in an attempt to protect the body from further damage. This can create lines of tension that result in symptoms of pain and imbalance.

The Technique:
Myofascial Release, as taught by John F. Barnes, PT, LMT, NCTMB, is a technique that applies gentle, sustained pressure to areas of the body to release these restrictions in the connective tissue. Soft-tissue release may be part of the treatment, as well. The therapist uses skin on skin contact without the use of lotions or oils.

You may experience a tingling or burning sensation.  You are actively giving feedback on sensations felt, allowing the therapist to create your body treatment map.

Especially benefits clients with:

  • Arthritis
  • Limited past success with traditional/deep massage
  • Anxiety/depression
  • Scar tissue
  • Chronic tightness/tension
  • Restricted range of motion at joints such as the shoulder, knee, hip, ankle

To Prepare:

  • Wear clothes that can move easily such as athletic shorts and, for women, a sports bra or tank top
  • Avoid wearing lotion and hand/wrist/neck jewelry?

Can be booked in:

  • Spa Massage Room (downstairs)
  • Sport Massage Room  (upstairs)

Craniosacral Therapy (aka: Cranial Sacral Therapy/Massage)

What is the Craniosacral system:
The Craniosacral system consists of the bones of the skull, spine and hips, as well as the spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid.

The Technique:
In Craniosacral Therapy, the therapist uses very light and gentle touch to assess the system’s state and help create space within the bones. With this light touch, the therapist can release restrictions and tension, improving the functioning of the central nervous system. This therapy is often used as a preventive health measure to aid in resisting disease and to help relieve pain and dysfunction within the body.

Especially benefits clients with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Migraines
  • Headaches
  • Chronic neck/back pain
  • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)

To Prepare:

  • Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothes (as you are often clothed for this therapy)
  • Arrive a few minutes early to your appointment in order to fully discuss problem areas with your therapist

  • Spa Massage Room (downstairs)

Ashiatsu Massage (aka: Ashi)

The Technique:
Ashiatsu is a deep luxurious massage technique. Using a ceiling bar system, long soothing strokes are applied with the therapist’s feet, rather than their hands. This allows for deeper and broader pressure. Ashiatsu massage will induce deep relaxation and is ideal for those who love deep tissue work.

Especially benefits clients with:

  • Tight hips
  • An athletic build
  • Lower back stiffness
  • A need for deep tissue work

Not ideal if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Have bone density or disc issues
  • Have recent injuries

To Prepare:

  • Avoid wearing lotion and hand/wrist/neck jewelry

Can be booked in:

  • Spa Massage Room (downstairs)

Can be booked with:

Warm Towel Experience

Warm towels with a bit of peppermint oil to rejuvenate and refresh are used under the neck and wrapped on the feet. Usually during the second half of the massage as you are on your back. The towels gently warm your body and muscles, accentuating the relaxed feeling you have in the room and even after you leave. Your body will love the warm towel experience in your massage at Vie!
