Diabetes can significantly affect your health and increase the risk of various cardiovascular problems. What can you do to help manage or prevent diabetes? Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and low fat dairy products. Limit foods that are high in sugar and rich in saturated and trans fats. Incorporate daily physical activity. Exercise helps cells utilize insulin better. Manage stress. Stress can trigger the release of hormones that increase blood sugar.
