Experience the luxurious benefits of massage at Vie. Massage is an effective therapy for stress relief and muscle rejuvenation. Peer reviewed medical research has demonstrated that it reduces pain, blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety. Additionally, the research shows that massage expedites the recovery period for, and increases, muscle performance after periods of strain (e.g., fitness training; learn more here.)
At Vie we're very selective in adding therapists to our team. Of course all of Vie's therapists are licensed by the State of Michigan. They also come with outstanding referrals, are proficient in a wide variety of techniques, and bring deep experience to the Spa at Vie.

In ashiatsu, the therapist receives additional, extensive training to use their feet to deliver treatment. The name comes from the Japanese, ashi for foot and atsu for pressure. This technique typically uses the heel, sesamoid, arch or whole plantar surface of foot. This approach offers large compression, tension and shear forces with less pressure than an elbow. Ashiatsu is ideal for large muscles, such as in thigh, or for long-duration upper trapezius compressions.
In deep tissue massage the thereapist accesses the deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). Deep tissue therapy can be especially beneficial for acute muscle stress or specific loci of pain.
During a hot stone massage, the therapist incorporates hot stones that are placed on specific parts of the body.
Smooth and flat basalt stones are commonly used for their heat retention properties. The heat from the stones dialates the blood vessles improving blood flow and increasing the pain and stress relief properties of massage.
Prenatal massage relieves many of the discomforts associated with pregnancy. Therapists apply techniques to reduce swelling, cramps and backaches. Precise positioning of the body is a critical component of prenatal massage. Providing support with specific cushion placement and side positioining reduce strain on the lower back.
Reflexology involves application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques. Most people experience reflexology massage to be quite relaxing.
Relaxation massage, or Swedish massage, is the most common massage technique. Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes. These include effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration.
